::recipe::

I figure I need to share alot of these bad boys. Alot of people out there don't know how to eat healthy or cook in general. And I think that we need to fight obesity in our countries and start showing kids how to eat for nutrition and choose wisely when coming to decisions about food.
I try and not eat alot of fast food, but sometimes it's just plain damn convenient after a hectic day or a miserable one.
Now, this recipe, I hear alot of people enjoy. I have never tried it and quite frankly, I'm a little frightened of it.
But I guess one day I will have to try it as my boyfriend LOVES this stuff.
I just don't want to try it because it's full of *bleh* onions! I am not a huge onion fan. Beleive me. I don't know why. But I just don't like 'em.
What I am talking about here is French Onion Soup...how that tastes. I'm unsure.
Whatever...anyways...this recipe was once again taken from Canadian Living's website. You gotta check them out (no I am not getting paid to endorse them I just genuinely love them).
So here you go! Hope you enjoy. Tell me how it tastes and if I have good reason to be staying away from this recipe.
Now isn't this a weird post, posting about something I don't really like. Lol.

French Onion Soup

- by the Canadian Living Test Kitchen

This classic soup isn't hard to make, and it's a good way to use up stale bread.

Source: Google

Ingredients
2 onions (unpeeled) 1 clove garlic 1 tbsp (15 mL) butter 2 tsp (10 mL) granulated sugar1/2 tsp (2 mL) dried marjoram
1/2 tsp (2 mL) pepper
Pinch salt
4 cups (1 L) beef stock (side note from me: I think you can use other types of stock. I don't eat beef so I think I would choose a chicken stock. Not sure if it alters the taste though.)
1 tbsp (15 mL) balsamic or red wine vinegar
4 slices French bread
3/4 cup (175 mL) shredded Swiss cheese (side note from me: I think you can choose whatever cheese you prefer)

Preparation:
On cutting board and using small knife, cut onions in half from stem to root end. Cut thin slice off stem end. Peel off outer skin. Place cut side down; cut each half crosswise into thin slices. Peel off outer skin from garlic; chop finely.
In large heavy saucepan, melt butter over medium heat until starting to bubble. Add onions, garlic, sugar, marjoram, pepper and salt. Stir with wooden spoon until onions are coated with butter. Cover pan with lid; reduce heat to medium-low. Cook, stirring occasionally, for 15 to 20 minutes or until onions are limp.
Pour in beef stock and balsamic vinegar; increase heat to high, and bring to boil. Reduce heat to medium and simmer for 10 minutes.
Meanwhile, place oven rack on second rung from top. Preheat broiler for 5 minutes. Toast bread in toaster or under broiler until golden brown; set aside. Place 4 ovenproof soup bowls on baking sheet or pan. Ladle soup into bowls. Top with toast slices. Sprinkle cheese evenly over top.
Wearing oven mitts, place tray of bowls under broiler; broil for about 3 minutes or until cheese is bubbly and golden.

Ps. This recipe makes four servings. :)

It shouldn't really come as a surprise that my photo of the day is Lara Stone. I love her, I think she is absolutely gorgeous and totally down to earth. She has a girlishness innocence at times while also having a dark side to her.
In the month of December, this year, Lara is on the cover of Vogue China. Not sure who the photographer is, but I can't wait to see what the spread is going to look like on the inside. Let's just hope that there are many pictures!

You globetrotters are in for a real treat! It's another recipe starring one of the loves of my life.....pasta. ;)
I love love loooooooove pasta. I love spaghetti, I love pesto, I love shells, rotini, cappellini, just everything! I don't like lasagna too much though.
The only problem with pasta is that it's very high in calories. :(
But! There is hope! I actually just found out about a no-calorie pasta. It's called Shirataki Miracle Noodle which is made of naturally water soluble fibre with no fat, sugar or starch. (You can check out their website: http://www.miraclenoodle.com/ - I think I might order mine at some point in the future ~ I will keep you guys posted as to how this actually tastes.)
Anywhooo, the recipe for today is going to be one that I am going to try and tackle tonight. I am trying to eat healthier, but today I decided to treat myself.
So, my choice for today's dinner is; Spaghetti Carbonara. I found this recipe on canadianliving.com ~ they have a tun of amazing recipes on there that you guys should definitely check out. So here are the ingredients and steps ~ bon appetit!

Spaghetti Carbonara with Prosciutto

-By The Canadian Living Test Kitchen

Ingredients
4 eggs
6 oz (170 g) chopped prosciutto

1/4 (50 mL) grated Parmesan cheese, (approx)
1/4 cup (50 mL) chopped fresh parsley
1 tbsp (15 mL) whipping cream
1/4 tsp (1 mL) pepper
12 oz (340 g) spaghetti

Preparation:In large bowl, whisk together eggs, prosciutto, Parmesan, parsley, cream and pepper; set aside. In large pot of boiling salted water, cook spaghetti until tender but firm, about 12 minutes. Drain and add immediately to egg mixture, tossing to lightly cook eggs and coat pasta in creamy sauce. Serve sprinkled with more Parmesan if desired.

~
See! Simple. ;) And delicious! Make sure you stir alot though when you pour the eggs or they will cook and will turn out clumpy.
Prep time is 5 minutes, takes 12 minutes to make and serves 4.
Hope you enjoy!

It's time for another recipe!!!! This one I personally haven't tried but it did catch my eye and will be something I will try sometime this week. You can do many variations with this type of salad. Tomatoes are one of my most favorite vegetables (although not grilled or warm), I love the crisp and juicy cool taste that a tomato gives off (especially on a hot summer day!) but it's also delicious during the winter season too. :) Some variations that I may try also would be to toss with avocado, and I definitely like the idea of tomatoes with green onions (always used to have this on an open faced sandwhich).Hope you guys enjoy and do give this a try! Let me know how you guys like it. ;)

Garlicky Tomato Salad

When tomatoes are at their peak of sweetness, this garlicky tomato salad is particularly delicious. It’s eye-catching, too, if you make it with a mixture of different-coloured tomatoes—new varieties are coming on the market all the time.

I
ngredients1 large leaf lettuce, large leaves torn into smaller pieces 4 large or 6 small ripe Italian tomatoes, about 500 g in total, sliced2 cups cherry tomatoes, halved16 fresh basil leaves2 tablespoons toasted pumpkin seeds2 tablespoons toasted sunflower seeds
Garlic Vinaigrette

1 small garlic clove, finely chopped1 1⁄2 teaspoons red wine vinegar2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oilpepper to taste

DirectionsTo make the garlic vinaigrette, whisk together the garlic, vinegar, oil and pepper in a small mixing bowl. Place a layer of lettuce leaves on a serving platter or on 4 plates and arrange the sliced tomatoes and then the cherry tomatoes on top. Drizzle over the vinaigrette. Scatter the basil leaves and the pumpkin and sunflower seeds over the tomatoes, and serve at once. Garlicky tomato salad variations: Try a salad of cherry tomatoes and sugar snap peas. Trim 250 g sugar snap peas and steam for about 3 minutes or until tender but still crisp. Refresh under cold running water, then cool. Mix with 370 g cherry tomatoes, halved if large, and 6 thinly sliced green onions. Make the garlic vinaigrette as in the main recipe and drizzle it over the tomatoes and peas. Add 4 tablespoons chopped fresh mint, or 1 tablespoon each chopped fresh tarragon and parsley, and toss to mix.
Prep time: 10 minsserves 4 (as a starter) or 2 (as a main dish)
